East - West Church Dialogue Resource Publication
< Back

Just over a year ago we were in Beirut attending a dialogue conference among Church leaders entitled “The Magi Initiative: East ⇆ West”. Over 100 participants comprising of clergymen, church leaders, leaders of faith-based organizations, Christian universities and seminaries coming from all over the Middle East and North Africa as well as those representing the “West” mainly from Europe, UK, and USA, came together to explore how Bible Societies can become a catalyst by bringing Christians together, through God’s Word, to support their communities during critical times. The event was hosted by the Bible Society in Lebanon, Syria and Iraq, and IBAC, in collaboration with the Middle East Council of Churches.

On its one-year anniversary, we are thrilled to announce the publication of the conference proceedings, which is also available for download. The world has since undergone major changes. The coronavirus has ground economies to a halt, has destabilised fragile political contexts and has transformed the way we travel, work and engage in community. On top of this, the dramatic explosion in Beirut has deepened the already existing political instability and dire economic situation in Lebanon.

The content of this publication, which represents the papers presented at the conference last year, is made ever more relevant today, when the world has suffered massive shifts which have impacted society in general and communities and churches in particular. Our hope is that engagement with this publication and the topics presented here would reignite the quest for a East-West dialogue between churches and communities for mutual support during these critical times.
